Letter from Fawn M. Brodie to Francis W. Kirkman in which she confronts Kirkman's allegations that an 1826 court document used in her book "No Man Knows My History : The Life of Joseph Smith" (1945) was a fake. The letter focuses on Brodie's attempts to trace the history of the document and related court records and report her findings to Kirkman. The last page includes a handwritten note to Juanita Brooks. Includes typescript of W.D. Purple's article "Historical Reminiscences of the Town of Afton" (Chenango Union, May 3, 1877). In a second letter, written from Fawn M. Brodie to Juanita Brooks, Brodie describes her conflicts with the Mormon Church after the publication of her 1945 book on Joseph Smith. The letter focuses on Elder Bowen and Francis Kirkham's attempts to prove that the 1826 court record used by Brodie in her book was a fake, and a response from Brodie triggered by an article published by Francis Kirkham ("Joseph Smith in Chenango County," Improvement Era, March 1947, No.3). The letter also praises Dale Lowell Morgan's book "The Great Salt Lake" (1947).
